Choosing a Program

OSU GO supports nearly 200 programs in more than 70 countries. Before you start reviewing our extensive program list, consider the information below to help you narrow your search:

It is a good idea to define your goals for your study abroad or internship program. Consider the following questions to help you define your goals and preferences:

  • What do I want to accomplish academically and/or professionally?
  • What financial resources do I have?
  • When do I want to go abroad and for how long?
  • What are my personal goals?
  • What kind of experience do I want to have abroad? (Do I want to be on a program with other US students or something more independent?)

The following program types are arranged from shorter to longer and from more to less structured.

  • Faculty-led study abroad programs are led by OSU faculty for OSU students and offer coursework in specific areas of study. They are scheduled to fit with OSU's academic calendar, and are great for students looking for a program with a higher level of on-site support.

  • Language, Culture, or Field intensive programs focus on language or cultural immersion or offer you the opportunity to explore your academic interests through a hands on experience. Frequently offered during the summer, these programs have more focused course offerings and include students from around the world.

  • Exchange and Direct Enroll programs allow OSU students to complete academic coursework at a host institution abroad with students from the host country and other international students. Located throughout the world, our partner institutions offer instruction in host country languages and many also offer courses in English. While some programs are limited to students in specific OSU colleges or departments, others are open to all students.

  • International Internships: If you have relevant experience in your field and are seeking to contribute your skills and knowledge to an international host organization, consider an international internship through OSU's IE3 Global international internship program. Internships are best suited for students interested in a professional, independent experience that requires greater self-motivation and offers a culturally immersive experience.

  • Ask your academic advisor, department, or college to learn more about recommended programs for your academic or professional interests.
