Supporting faculty, strengthening programs, and celebrating the work that advances learning every day.
News from Oregon State University's
Division of Academic Affairs
Academic Matters shares the stories, initiatives, and innovations that shape our academic community. Each issue highlights the people and programs driving excellence in teaching, scholarship, and student success.
Welcome to this inaugural issue of the Academic Affairs newsletter, Academic Matters. Through various channels over the last several years, we’ve heard that faculty and staff don’t necessarily know the breadth of functions and services provided by Academic Affairs. That’s reasonable—you may only have occasion to interact with our programming, services, or staff on matters related to specific areas such as undergraduate research, promotion and tenure, curriculum modifications, or graduate student mentoring. The purpose of this newsletter is to highlight, on an on-going basis, key projects being undertaken both within Academic Affairs and in partnership with other units across the university and even outside of OSU.
Broadly, Academic Affairs focuses on advancing learning, supporting faculty, and strengthening programs. In this inaugural issue, we provide a brief overview of the structure and functions within Academic Affairs. Here and going forward, we’ll spotlight work and programming we think may be of greatest interest to academic faculty and others across the university.
Topics in this issue include the first-year retention project launched this Fall by Provost Haggerty, on-going academic program renovation work, and a spotlight on Provost Fellow Jason Ideker's efforts to update faculty resources for P&T. We welcome your feedback on the newsletter and your input on topics you would like to learn more about. Please reach out to Erin Bird with your input and suggestions.
Please encourage faculty and staff members to subscribe so they can receive future issues.
