Faculty Excellence Fellows

The Office of Academic Faculty Excellence (OAFE) leads university-wide efforts to support and elevate academic faculty across their career advancement. Through signature programs, strategic partnerships, and centralized resources, OAFE supports academic faculty in achieving excellence in their scholarly, pedagogical, and leadership roles. Positioned as a nexus for academic faculty development in collaboration with other units, OAFE ensures that faculty are equipped contribute meaningfully to student success, institutional innovation, and societal impact.

Faculty Excellence Fellows Program

The OAFE offers the Faculty Excellence Fellows program, which provides opportunities for academic faculty to:

  • Enhance leadership skills and administrative experience through coordinating university-wide faculty excellence initiatives;
  • Develop and lead OAFE signature programming that supports faculty excellence;
  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Excellence and attend quarterly OAFE team meetings; and
  • Engage with university leaders and academic faculty from across the university.

Fellowship Appointment

Fellowship appointments typically span the academic year (9 months) for approximately 15-20 hours per week, commensurate with project and candidate needs. Initial appointment is for one academic year with the expectation, pending funding and performance, for renewal up to three years. Full time, academic faculty at any OSU location are eligible. For those not located in Corvallis, some of the fellow’s time would need to be spent on the Corvallis campus.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Hold an advanced position (promoted and/or tenured);
  • Have worked at OSU for at least 5 years;
  • Have experience leading or designing faculty development programming; and/or
  • Have interest in pursuing administrative leadership positions.

The OAFE will provide partial support for teaching release and/or other service duties during the appointment period. Fellows may be provided funding to continue their involvement during the summer and modest discretionary travel and/or professional development funds. The specific details of the appointment will be negotiated and approved annually by the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Excellence, unit head, and fellow.

Application and Deadline

Application materials should include:

  1. Candidate statement of interest addressing the following (2-3 pages):
    • Description of the applicant’s interest in the fellowship and how the experience would enhance professional goals and growth;
    • Highlights of applicant’s relevant qualifications and experience;
    • Description of the nominee’s interests related to academic faculty excellence; new faculty onboarding, recruitment, and retention; faculty awards and recognition; programming to support faculty across career stages and in various ranks; peer faculty mentorship; and/or leadership development.
  2. Brief memo (or email) of support from the Department/School Head.
    • Department/School Heads should commit to providing release-time support if the nominee is selected for a fellowship.
    • OAFE will provide funds to the unit to partially offset the costs of the fellowship.
  3. CV
