Dear OSU Community,
Oregon State University has been continuously accredited since 1924 and is currently accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The process for reaccreditation is now underway as we must prepare two important reports in advance of a visit by an external evaluation team in spring 2026.
Reaccreditation is a comprehensive evaluation of our institution’s programs, policies, and practices. It involves a thorough review by external experts who assess our compliance with established standards. The goal is to validate the quality of our educational offerings and institutional effectiveness. Reaccreditation is critical for maintaining eligibility for federal funding and public confidence in our university.
In 2020, one year after OSU completed its last accreditation cycle, NWCCU revised its standards and the structure of the review cycle. The current (2020) standards emphasize student learning and achievement as well as equity and closing gaps among demographic groups. NWCCU expects that OSU has built a culture of evidence and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Under the new standards, we will produce two reports:
Shortly after submission of the EIE, we will have a site visit by a team of evaluators, likely in April 2026.
We have formed a steering committee, a core team, and working groups to guide and perform this work, and you can find more details on the university accreditation website. I will update the university community as the work progresses and the site visit approaches.
Best,
Alix Gitelman, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost
