Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kendon Kurzer as Director of the Writing Intensive Curriculum (WIC) Program, effective July 28, 2025.
Dr. Kurzer recently joined Oregon State University as an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. He comes to OSU from the University of California, Davis, where he was a continuing lecturer and the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Director. Dr. Kurzer brings a depth of experience teaching writing and leading writing programs in higher education.
With his career established at the nexus of Writing Across the Curriculum and multilingual writing, Dr. Kurzer’s specialized expertise in supporting international and multilingual student writers aligns well with OSU's values in inclusive excellence that supports student success. Dr. Kurzer's research areas of focus include generative AI use, technical writing, and supporting language acquisition in anti-racist manners. His work has been published in The WAC Journal, TESOL Quarterly, and Assessing Writing, among other venues. Dr. Kurzer has 16 years of writing classroom experience, teaching classes ranging from first-year writing to upper division writing in engineering, business, and health sciences. Having led the UC Davis WAC program for four years, he has extensive experience providing outreach, faculty development, and support for writing-intensive courses in all disciplines across the university.
Many thanks to Dr. Ashley Holmes for serving as Interim Director of WIC for the 24-25 academic year. Dr. Holmes will continue to be the point of contact for WIC until Dr. Kurzer's start at the end of July.
