The health and safety of OSU travelers to international destinations is our primary concern. In light of the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, its impact on our local and global communities, and the increase of vaccination opportunities, we must balance restrictions on activities and compliance with public health guidance. Therefore, OSU is closely monitoring developments of COVID-19 and its variants locally and internationally.

While OSU lifted its March 2020 suspension on university-sponsored travel as of June 1, 2021, international travel to destinations deemed high risk (for COVID-19 or other reasons) continues to require a petition and approval as outlined in OSU’s International Travel Policy

As we look ahead to future terms, we will continue to monitor conditions and update our program offerings to reflect programs slated to be offered.  Where applicable, OSU GO Staff will facilitate a program petition review 3-4 months before the program’s start date.   We invite you to explore our Global Opportunities database for programs currently available.

  • OSU GO will continue to monitor the viability of future Global Opportunities programming and will notify applicants of any program suspensions by the host institution or by OSU as early as possible.

In general, within 60-90 days of your program’s start date, OSU GO will either confirm that a program is approved to run or is not approved to run. To avoid any academic or financial repercussions, we recommend that you not purchase airfare or make other nonrefundable travel arrangements until your program coordinator has confirmed that your program is approved and will be offered by the host institution.

For faculty-led programs: if OSU suspends your program due to COVID-19, the OSU GO application fee and program deposit (if applicable) will be refunded.

For OSU exchange programs: if OSU suspends your exchange program due to COVID-19, the OSU GO application and administrative fee will be refunded.

For IE3 Global programs: if OSU suspends your IE3 Global program (study abroad or internship) due to COVID-19, the IE3 Global application fee and deposit (if applicable) will be refunded.

For OSU partner programs: if your study abroad provider (e.g. API, CIEE, IFSA, etc.) suspends your program due to COVID-19, consult with your program provider to determine their refund policy.  The OSU GO application and administrative fee will be refunded.
