Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tenisha L. Tevis as Director of the Difference, Power, and Oppression (DPO) Program effective July 15, 2024. Dr. Tevis brings an extensive background in higher education, particularly in the areas of educational policy and leadership, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion scholarship, and a practice and passion for fostering inclusive, equitable learning environments.

Dr. Tevis is an Associate Professor of Adult and Higher Education in the College of Education here at Oregon State University. She earned her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in Educational Theory and Policy Studies, holds a Master and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Sacramento. She has taught an impressive array of courses including but not limited to power & privilege in leadership, research methods, and policy issues in higher education at the graduate level, and sociology, criminal justice, and writing courses at the undergraduate level. Her scholarship, creative activity, and service are impressive, and reflect her sincere dedication to advancing equity and inclusion. She has consistently conducted research that critically examines systems of power and privilege in the educational context, with a particular focus on race, class, gender, and ability. She has held positions as a faculty member, director, and research analyst, demonstrating a strong commitment to program administration and assessment, faculty and curriculum development, as well as student success.

My sincere thanks go to Dr. Natchee Barnd for serving as Interim Director of DPO this past year. He and his team helped to usher in the new DPO requirements in Core Education, work that Dr. Tevis will continue. Dr. Barnd has graciously agreed to stay on through the scheduled summer DPO academies. I would also like to thank the search committee for their work.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Tevis and welcoming her to this role.

Best,

Alix I. Gitelman, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost
