Dear Oregon State University Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Regan A. R. Gurung as Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), effective May 1st, 2021. This is a half time appointment and Dr. Gurung also serves as Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychological Science.

Dr. Gurung has served as Interim Executive Director for the CTL since the 2019 academic year. During his tenure, he has provided valuable support for teaching faculty, and has been particularly effective in helping OSU weather the extra burden of remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With his expertise in social psychology, as well as his passion for teaching, Dr. Gurung has brought unique, research-based insight to CTL programming. His expertise is used university-wide. He has been instrumental in faculty orientation and development workshops and has worked to enhance inclusivity in the classroom and in experiential education.

Dr. Gurung earned his bachelors from Carleton College, Northfield, (MN), his M.S. and Ph.D. in Social/Personality Psychology from University of Washington, Seattle, and was an NIMH Postdoctoral Fellow at University of California, Los Angeles. Regan, came to OSU after 20 years at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he was the Ben J. and Joyce Rosenberg Professor of Psychology and served as Associate Dean and Department Chair. He has authored, co-authored, or edited 15 books, over 120 peer reviewed articles and chapters, and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science. He is winner of both the Charles L. Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award, the American Psychological Association’s highest teaching award, and the Carnegie Foundation’s WI Professor of the Year award. He is also the recipient of Carleton College Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Among numerous leadership positions, he served as President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and is founding co-editor of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology.
