HB2919 Reminder - Required Course Materials And Supplies Listing: DEADLINE 10/30/2023

To: OSU Faculty and Colleagues

October 11th, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

Last year, the Office of Academic Affairs alerted you to the new House Bill 2919, enacted in 2021. HB2919 requires all public colleges and universities in Oregon display a complete listing of required course materials and supplies (and their associated costs) for at least 75% of their for-credit courses on a campus bookstore’s website at the time of student registration. HB2919 requires completion of this work prior to registration opening, providing students time to plan, budget, and seek financial support for course material costs.

Currently, OSU has not met the 75% compliance requirement for HB2919 for the upcoming Winter term. If you are teaching this Winter, please fill out the Beaver Store course requisition form no later than Oct. 30. Please complete the requisition form even if you will not require students to purchase course materials, or if you are using library materials and/or open educational resources (OER). You can learn more about this process and get answers to other questions on the Office of Academic Affairs website FAQ page.

If you have further questions, please contact:

  • Stefanie Buck, Director of open educational resources, regarding the legislative requirements and/or

  • James Howard, Chief academic materials officer, regarding the process for submitting bookstore adoptions.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to submit their course materials.

We also greatly appreciate the continued collaboration of the OSU Beaver Store, a non-profit organization, in serving OSU students and faculty.

Best,

Alix I. Gitelman

Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Senior Vice Provost
